The format of the IDW-design weekend '09 is divided in two core souls linked by a common topic, leitmotif of the whole event: "Mediterranean Design between present and future".


Showrooms circuits

The first soul sees to the involvement of the best showrooms, malls and design stores in the city which participate in a contest for the best window/installation interpreting the chosen topic throughout the set up of spaces and shop windows. The whole city is involved and organized based on to an event program.

Exhibitions and cultural initiatives

Protagonists of the second soul of the event are inedited exhibitions and cultural initiatives related to the topic "Mediterranean Design between present and future". From national to international boundaries, the topic includes initiatives that start from Turkey and arrive in Italy and contains, among the others, the project of the magazine PalermoDesign.it that will exhibit, announce and award the winners of the international online contest dedicated to Mediterranean Design. The exhibition, for the first time in Istanbul, gathers the best design, visual design and photographic projects chosen by the Jury of the contest.

On the occasion of this exhibition, a Conference on the theme Mediterranean Design has been organized: an interesting meeting between different cultures of the Mediterranean area with the participation of opinion leaders, design professors and important designers from Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco and Turkey.

Some of the most successful exhibition presented during last Milan Design Week will be proposed in Istanbul. Among these exhibitions, the impressive Richard Ginori exhibition curated by Paola Navone and the installation by Michelangelo Pistoletto in which the Mediterranean Seas is interpreted using the laleggera chairs designed by Riccardo Blumer for Alias.
